The society has often attempted to develop explanations for different approaches to social interactions. Studies in social sciences indicate that people make an effort to improve their lifestyles as long as the state factors therein provide the appropriate environment for them to improve their lifestyles economically and socially. Different theorists in sociology, such as Emile Durkheim, highlight the existence of a struggle for resources and cite the importance of the state actors in ensuring the distribution of such resources. Consequently, other scholars have developed alternate explanations on the most effective approach to social governance. While Marxism and socialism share the same idea on the appropriate distribution of wealth within a society, they differ in the source of their motivation, the role of the government, and the interaction between members of the society. Notably, Marxism is based on the idea of dependence and exploitation while socialism is based on the idea of collective responsibility. Marxists argue that differences in classes within.the society are a primary cause of struggle as the wealthy members therein exploit the labor supplied by the workers (Crompton 11).
