Military Leadership: Introduction and Bibliography
Leadership Lessons from Great Commanders – Week 3 Assignment
Final Paper – Introduction and Initial References
Your Final Paper will ask you to reflect on what you have learned, so far, about Leadership. In Week 1, you studied Clausewitz’s theory of genius which he believed was necessary to overcome the inevitable fog and friction of conflict and circumstance. He wrote this at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and now, today, we stand in the beginnings of the Information Age where networks are global.
Your Final Paper asks the following question:
“What can past military leaders show us about leadership—in any field or profession—in the 21st century?”
In preparation for this Final Paper, this week, you will write an introductory paragraph, develop a draft thesis, and research some initial sources so that you can receive feedback from your instructor.
First, review the Final Paper instructions from the course syllabus.
Next, write an Introduction (1 page) that:
a. Introduces the topic of leadership and why it is important to you.
b. Establishes a premise regarding military leadership: its uniqueness, differences, and/or similarities to other leadership theories you have already learned.
Then, end your Introduction with a Thesis Statement that answers the Final Paper Question.
(You can use a Thesis Generator to help craft your draft thesis. Here is an example Thesis Generator: https://awc.
Finally, provide an initial Reference page of at least three (3) scholarly sources in addition to the Course Text and Course Readings. Annotate each source with two paragraphs that covers the following:
- The first paragraph is a short summary of the article in your own words. Avoid quoting and do not copy the abstract of the article.
- The second paragraph is a short discussion of how this source supports your paper’s topic. How does this source reinforce the argument or claim you are making?
Here is a sample Reference Page from Course Resources.
The Reference Page must be in APA Format, as described in the Grantham Writing Center.
Use Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources as a guide. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment.
This assignment must include a separate title page, in APA Format, followed by:
Introduction and Thesis at least 1 page and no more than 2 pages. Double-spaced and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Grantham Writing Center.
Annotated Reference Page with minimum three (3) scholarly sources, annotated, and correctly formatted to APA standards.
