The circulation of the blood in the heart involves the flow of oxygenated and de-oxygenated from different parts of the body. For proper functioning, both the right and left side of the heart must work together  (Ponganis, 2018). The de-oxygenated blood enters the heart through the vena cava. From the vena cava, it enters the right atrium of the heart. The contraction of the right atrium facilitates the opening of the tricuspid valve, which permits the flow of blood into the right ventricle. Once the right ventricle has received enough blood, the tricuspid valve closes. The closure of this valve prevents the backward flow of blood (Ponganis, 2018). The right ventricle contracts forcing the blood to leave the heart via the pulmonic valve. This blood enters the pulmonary artery, which conveys it to the lung for oxygenation.
