Abstract

The focus of this research paper is “Motivation within the workplace”. Motivation has different meanings for all sorts of people. Motivation affects people differently as well, it mainly depends on the type of job one has or type of employment one is involved with. Motivation for a business owner is much different than the motivation used for a new hire employee. According to Wiley, (2011) defines motivation as “the forces coming from within a person that account for the willful direction, intensity, and persistence of the person’s efforts toward achieving specific goals, where achievement is not due solely to ability or to environmental factors”.

Motivation in the workplace has the largest impacts in relation to the organizational behavior within the work force. If employees are not offered different methods of motivation the company may struggle with negative behaviors surfacing amongst employees.  For example, “the lack of motivation could affect safety, esteem needs, self-actualization needs, social needs as well as physiological needs just to name a few” (Wiley 2011). Too much motivation can also be harmful to a company in different ways.

This research paper will entail how motivation affects the workplace on daily basis as well as the overall long term effects motivation has on workers who benefit from it. The relevance of motivation in relation to the Organizational behavior the fact the motivation is quite crucial an importance in any discussion of organizational behavior. Individuals must be motivated if they are to effectively engage in practices and behaviors that bring along the success to a company, business or firm. This area of organizational behavior is a major point of interest because companies use many strategies to master effective motivation and they all funnel to the one goal of effectively running a business.
