Motown was one of the most successful music business companies in the twentieth century. Created in 1959, the company’s heydays were primarily in the 1960s, and its contribution to the music scene primarily gained a positive repute or some of the notable names the company was instrumental in bringing to fame (Smith 29). Operating on Detroit, Motown was responsible for the significant success enjoyed by female groups of artists, then known as “Girl Groups.” Primarily focused on soul music, the girl groups made use of the different techniques by Motown, to create highly impactful music from the girl groups. Although the technology available in modern-day studios was absent at the time, the use of specific microphones and proximity to the mic made it possible for the producers to create variations in sound that ultimately determined the authenticity of Motown production.
