What was your favorite musical moment of the event (and why)?
Grading

1) What was your favorite musical moment of the event (and why)?
Grading:
16 points for answers that satisfy these requirements:
1) Minimum three sentences;
2) Good English;
3) Address both parts of the question (“what” and “why”).

– 2 points removed for each missing component (e.g., two sentences rather than three, bad
English, “what” answered but not “why”).
2) What musical elements did you notice in that selection (e.g., rhythm, melody, harmony,
texture, dynamics, and/or something else)?
Grading:
16 points for answers that satisfy these requirements:
1) Minimum four sentences (note: you can devote all four to a single musical trait, or you can
spread them over more than one trait);
2) Good English;
3) Musical trait(s) clearly understood. (Note: the grader will not have the means to compare what
you have written to the music itself, so understanding a trait simply means writing about it in a
way that makes sense.)
– 2 points removed for each missing component.
3) Anything you disliked (and why)?
Grading:
16 points for answers that satisfy these requirements:
1) Minimum two sentences;
2) Good English;
3) Address both parts of the question (what you disliked and why). Note: if there was nothing
you disliked, then spend those two sentences defending that position; for instance, you could
identify what you tend not to like in a musical performance and then speculate on why that style,
trait, etc. would not be present in an event of this nature.
– 2 points removed for each missing component.
4) To what degree did the audience participate in this event (on a scale from “very passive”
to “very involved”), relative to audiences at other types of musical events?
Grading:
16 points for answers that satisfy these requirements:
1) Minimum two sentences;
2) Good English;
3) Both an identification of the audience’s level of participation and, as a way of justifying your
judgment, a comparison of this audience to those at other kinds of musical events.
– 2 points removed for each missing component.
5) What was the audience’s reaction to this music? Did people seem to enjoy the music? Did
they walk out? Did audience members interact with each other (and if so, while the music
was playing or between numbers)?
Grading:
16 points for answers that satisfy these requirements:
1) Minimum two sentences;
2) Good English;

3) Answers that address at least two of the issues raised in this cluster of questions.
– 2 points removed for each missing component.
