Nelson Mandela is a famous individual whose growth greatly influenced the person he ended up becoming, the hero that people know today. Mandela’s character can be discussed from the perspective of Erik Erikson’s Theory. Mandel was the son of a chief and his mother was a third wife. His father lost his job because of standing up to the colonialists. Therefore, he started getting exposure to the discrimination and unfairness from an early age and therefore was nurtured into a freedom fighter. In the first stage of life, the trust-mistrust stage, Mandela lived with the mother and developed trust. He also went through the stage of autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt, where he developed important skills such as dressing and therefore became confident between age 1 and 3 (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2018). At 16, Mandela went through a circumcision ritual. It was the time when his sense of identity was cemented………
