One of the most advantageous aspects of organic chemistry is the ability to manipulate carbon components within the isomers. In essence, organic chemistry is all about removal or addition of the carbon element within a particular carbon molecule. However, the challenge exists in determining the element with a higher affinity that could effectively displace the carbon atom from a particular organic molecule, leading to the formation of an alternative compound based on the change in structure of the molecule in question. In the case of synthesizing amphetamine (racemic) through the use of a Magnesium-Halogen replacement reaction, the challenge lies in effectively placing the magnesium halogen into the racemic compound and ensuring that the new compound formed is stable enough. Amphetamine is a carbon compound with a higher concentration of Hydrogen atoms than there are carbon and Nitrogen atoms. One molecule of amphetamine is made up of nine carbon atoms, 13 hydrogen, and one Nitrogen Atom.
