The authors of the assigned article, “A Patient-Driven Adaptive Prediction Technique to Improve Personalized Risk Estimation for Clinical Decision Support (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC339284…) have found that using patient-driven, adaptive technologies to guide clinical decision making are influencing the quality of patient care. How might these technologies minimize risk, promote health, and encourage patient engagement in their own care?

Modern technology has significantly influenced the approach to the provision of healthcare services to those in need. In particular, it has provided the opportunity to conduct a personalized approach to assessing the impacts of particular health decisions on individual patients, something that would have been unachievable without the modern technology. The technologies minimize the risks taken in the treatment processes since they provide an opportunity for reliable analysis of patient information prior to making critical decisions within the healthcare profession. In essence, some of the errors made in the operating rooms often result from issues that would have been addressed had there been an appropriate analysis of the patient as an individual rather than using general information from previous similar cases (Jiang, Boxwala, El-Kareh, Kim, & Ohno-Machado, 2012). Although the patients therein could have similar issues affecting them, some of the issues of the patients therein could be unique enough, and only identifiable through the adaptive technologies.
