Typically, the idea behind probation is to reduce overcrowding in the prisons and reduce the money spent by the government in maintaining inmates in jail (Phelps, 2016). Usually, a judge will sentence an offender to term and afterward suspend that sentence, then place the offender on probation. Increasingly, the society is of the opinion that someone doesn’t have to carry the full term sentence to reform, but other methods such as probation can also help offenders reform and become reliable members of the society (Phelps, 2016). Ordinarily, the non-violent offenders, and particularly the first time criminal will likely get probation. It means burglary, theft and drug offenses don’t typically get prison sentences unless the offender has a record of previous crimes……….
