Project: Country, Company and Product or Service

Assignment 1.3: Project: Country, Company and Product or Service

In this assignment, you will review the course project, a feasibility study for international market entry, and select a country, company, and a product or service as the focus of your project.

Procedure

  1. Please read the Project page carefully for an overview of the course project. Be sure to review the criteria on the Assessment tab of the Project page so that you will understand how your instructor will evaluate your project. (Note: The Project page is available from anywhere within this course by clicking on the Project tab in the top navigation bar.)
  2. Identify a company and a product or service for your project. It could be your current employer, a previous employer, a spouse or friend’s employer, or some other company for which you can gather adequate information.
    • You can approach this in a number of different ways, for example by thinking about a company’s competitive advantages, growing industries, innovative products or spotting fast-growing global companies.
    • To generate ideas, you might find it helpful to explore information from the Global Fortune 500 List or to check the Global Growth Champion List of the World Economic Forum. If you are looking for more ideas, consider the online archives of Fast Company.
  3. Consider the possible advantages and disadvantages of your company expanding its product or service to developed industrial countries (such as Western European countries, Japan, Australia or Canada), large emerging markets such as the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China), emerging markets such as the CIVETS countries (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa), or other locations.
  4. Preferably, choose a country that you are fairly unfamiliar with for your course project.
  5. Reflect on the drivers of globalization presented in Global Marketing Management (text), Chapter 1 and the other module readings to formulate an approach for your decision making on country attractiveness.
  6. Post a half-page description of your country, company, and product or service in the Forum. Provide references for any material that you have researched in the process. (Note: You are notexpected to have arrived at a final decision. Simply articulate your thought process and method up to this point. Please make this a public post to all members of the Forum.)
