According to Coon & Mitterer (2004), people are bound to encounter life struggles, and everyone has to cope resources to enable him or her to endure the challenges and make it to the next level. However, when a challenging situation overwhelms a person, he or she experiences psychological stress because the impact goes beyond his or her coping resources. People, therefore, can become stressed by physical or verbal abuse, their health issues or those of their loved ones, the death of a friend or relative, financial crises, and marital problems among other psychological stressors (Gee, 2010). Excessive stress compromises one’s health because it disrupts the body’s homeostasis hugely. Stress is perceived as a crucial factor in sports because it has both positive and negative effects on the athletes’ performance. Essentially, stress levels for athletes vary according to the situations they confront. Each athlete has a considerable stress level that optimizes his or her performance, and the limit is determined by his or her genetics, coping mechanisms, and past experiences. Athletes experience various changes linked to their lives or their particular sports. And they develop stress or anxiety because of the loss of familiarity.
