It is necessary to understand the relationship between religion and individual characters. In her writings, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” and “Mystery and Manners,” Flannery O’Connor presents characters who hide behind their religion to conceal their real traits. In the story, “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” Flannery presents characters who try to be good through their words in the eyes of the people but does otherwise through their actions. The doctrines of every religion expect individuals especially their followers to be moral in their behaviors and actions. However, people have taken advantage of these doctrines to show they are of good characters while this is not the case in reality as religion can only define morality but cannot shape individual traits. It means that following the doctrines of any religion whether Christianity or Hinduism, for example, does not reflect the true character of an individual………
