This week we are reading chapters 4, 5, and 6 that address Contracts used by consultants, and understanding the difference between Internal and External contracts. The goal this week is to understand that even if you do not intend to be an external consultant, you will be responsible for negotiating the provisions/language of MOUs/Contracts.

The learning objectives are to understand the types and elements of MOUs/contracts:

• Contracts for consulting services inside the organization are called Memorandums of Understanding (MOU).
• Contracts with individuals or firms outside of organizations are called Consulting Contracts.
• Contracting agreements are accomplished via discussions in-person or virtual.
• Contracting means understanding and overcoming many challenges:
  • Who is the client?
  • The client’s low motivation to agree upon a contract.
  • The client wants to negotiate everything and changes the “need” in every discussion.
  • Common unique challenges.
