Explain the initial goals of the colonists in 1765 at the time of the stamp act and the evolution of their ultimate decision to declare independence in 1776. In 1765, the colonists aimed at breaking free from their masters; the Great Britain. The first motivation for freedom was the Stamp Act imposed in 1765 and was the first in-house tax imposed on the colonists directly by the British Parliament (“A&E Television Networks”, 2009). The colonists were supposed to pay tax for every printed paper on the land. This would include legal papers, ship’s paper, newspaper, licenses, publications and playing cards. In the British Parliament colonists had no representation and therefore this made them furious.
