What are the boundaries that a social worker must keep in mind in order to prevent becoming too empathetic? Especially if emotional situations from one case might cause a social worker to bring those emotions associated memories into the next case? For example, unhealthy level of empathy driven by work-related experiences can cause social workers to violate the core value of Integrity of Social Work Practice. How do social workers attempt to avoid this issue?

Professional social workers get into a social work field with an aim to assist the community to grow as well as improve their life issues. However due to the nature of their work, many find themselves rooted in some of the families so much that they offer their services unprofessionally and unethically (Congress, 2017). Often, one finds complaints from some members of a community against social workers. In many instances, social workers get imprisoned due to misconducts such as violating confidentiality, malfeasance, and falsification in record-keeping as well as having a romantic relationship with their clients. Like all professionals, social workers have a responsibility to maintain appropriate boundaries between themselves and their clients.
