  1. Scholarly Inquiry.

Scholarly inquiry requires knowing what the current issues are related to your field and then narrowing down the search criteria within that issue. This is something that I am still practicing. I still have to go back multiple times to refine my search in order to find research that supports the issue I am researching.

  1. Critical Thinking.

Thinking critically about professional problems, challenges, or issues in education makes you look deeper at these issues than you normally would and challenge your own view. Critically thinking about professional problems, challenges, or issues has been the most fun for me. I have enjoyed expanding my viewpoints and knowledge and not only challenge my own thoughts but have others challenge my thinking as well.

  1. Information Literacy.

This is an ongoing skill for me. I find all the information I research so interesting that I tend to get caught up in what the research is saying rather then how it will help me support my writing. I need to become efficient at recognizing the data and research most relevant to my writing. Learning the most prevalent keywords to use in searches will help me locate the data and research quicker.

  1. Scholarly Writing.

Enhancing scholarly writing was challenging at first. It has been a while since I have had to use scholarly writing and the first paper was like knocking the rust off the wheels. The more I practiced summarizing and paraphrasing the easier it became. I will continue to enhance my writing as there is always room for improvement.

  1. Reflective Practice.

Being a reflective practitioner requires you to pause and analyze yourself. Taking a step back and critiquing yourself critically can then boost you as a professional. You can adjust and make improvements so that a decision, attitude, action, or skill that is not going in the right direction to meet the desired goal can be corrected quickly so as not to become a larger program and keep you from succeeding.

  1. Professionalism: Ethics and Diversity.

The characteristics of professionalism are a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic factors. A professional has the ability to assess situations that are ethically challenging. They can then solve those problems in a way that respects diversity and civil discourse. They may also challenge ideas and behaviors currently in place in an organization.
