Introduction. The death penalty is a government-sanctioned practice where a person found guilty of a certain crime is put to death by the state as a punishment for the crime. Since its inception, fifty-eight countries have the capital punishment within their ranks including the United States that has been considered as the lighthouse of Western economic and human development. The use of the death penalty goes back with religion being part of it, and since then it has been part of the human history. The early Christian accepted the death penalty with about thirty-six capital punishments found in the Mosaic Law that split into about thirteen classes of misdeeds that call for the death of an individual through stoning, burning, decapitation, and strangulation (Venturi, 2016). Even with the biblical precepts seeming to bring bloodsheds among the Rabbis, some started calling for its abolition since they believed that the biblical laws intended to warn people of the extreme seriousness of the crime. In America, Britain contributed to the influencing of its death penalty more than any other country. European settlers entering the United States took with them capital punishment thus introducing it in the country. The first recorded death penalty in the US was that of Captain George Kendall in that took place in Jamestown colony of Virginia in 1608…………
