Your Topic: Deja Vu (Memory)

Assignment Details: Psychology of X Paper (Final Termpaper)

The goal of this project is to have students apply concepts and principles of psychology to a topic of interest. The project will consist of an approximately 4-5-page paper (not including title and references pages) that is double-spaced in 12 point font.

Step 1: Choose a topic. Students will choose a psychological phenomenon of interest to them (e.g. The X). Students have flexibility in their chosen topics. Examples of topics used in previous courses include the Psychology of homelessness, music, poverty, substance use disorders, COVID-19, and toilet-paper hoarding. Do not copy examples that we have used in the textbook or lectures.

Step 2: Identify 3 chapters of the textbook that explain or contribute to the understand of your topic. For example, for the topic of music, you might look at Sensation & Perception, Learning, and Memory. The sky is the limit!

Step 3: Write your paper. The format of the paper should be:

Title Page (Title of paper, name, your school, semester)
Maximum of one-page introduction to your topic
Body (dedicate approximately one page to each concept)
Conclusion paragraph or page
Separate references page

Step 4: Formatting. The only required “source” for this paper is your textbook. Cite page numbers when referring to content in the textbook. You may also augment your paper with peer-reviewed journal articles as sources found at UMA’s library. The use of peer-reviewed articles does not replace the need for citing your textbook chapters and should generally be limited to the introduction section of your paper.

You are prohibited from using online sources such as Wikipedia and various pop-psychology websites such as Healthline and VeryWellMind.

More information on APA format can be found at https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html

The majority of the paper should be in your own words. If you pull text directly from the textbook, be sure to use quotation marks and page numbers.
