Presentation

Presentation should be 900-950 words long. It can focus on any aspect of the materials assigned for that day. The goal of your presentation should be to provide your fellow classmates with a broader and/or deeper understanding of concepts, theories, figures, and/or issues addressed in the course materials for that day. In particular, you should aim to do at least five things:

  • Support your arguments and interpretations with at least one high-quality secondary source (e.g., see those posted on iLearn, notably Dylan Evans’ book, An Introductory Dictionary of Lacanian Psychoanalysis). Please be sure to cite your secondary source.
  • Directly relate your subject matter to other course materials (e.g., recent lectures and forum discussions, other figures or theories we’ve considered, other assigned readings, other presentations, etc.).
  • Illustrate the relevance of your subject matter to broader contemporary issues (e.g., current events in public culture, recent developments in international relations, social interactions characteristic of everyday life, and the like).
  • Post additional audio and/or visual aids to facilitate the first, second, and/or third objectives outlined above (e.g., a short film clip or audio track, copies of an exemplary poem, an image of exemplary painting, etc.).
  • Be prepared to respond to questions and comments after your presentation, effectively coordinating any online class discussion that emerges in response to your presentation.

However you decide to proceed, remember that the basic task of this assignment is exegesis—the critical, cultural, and conceptual interpretation of specific course materials.
