The principles of social psychology

The principles of social psychology can be seen applied everywhere, such as daily life, current events, television shows, and movies. This film analysis assignment uses the methods of anthropology and communication to enhance your observational skills and become more aware of your automatic preconceptions and judgments. Analyzing a film allows you a chance to very closely (and repeatedly) examine social interactions and identify how the features of the situation and the person influence behavior.  You should select a movie from the list of movies below.

I would like to pick the two black men that car-jacking the white couple. As the movie’s pace, their part is all over the movie. So please watch the whole movie before start doing do.

As you watch, take note of instances in which principles of social cognition are apparent. Notice if the characters appear to be engaging in heuristic thinking, making judgments influenced by mood or goals, stereotyping or being stereotyped by others, etc. You’ll be able to discuss, correct, and contradict each other as you view and analyze the film.

  • Briefly describe the relevant scene (you may assume that I have already seen the film).  A “scene” may be a small as one interaction or a larger pattern of events that occur through the movie.
  • Describe in detail the social-psychological principle that is relevant in the scene.  Define the principle you are describing, citing research studies to support the accuracy of your definition (assume that your reader knows nothing about social psychology).
  • Describe how the scene conforms to or fails to conform to the principle you have identified.  Describe how the scene is similar to or different from research you are familiar with regarding the principle you are describing.

Try to separate your objective observations from your interpretations (or implicit, automatic judgments). That is, don’t say “a nice house” or “cheap jewelry” or “rotten weather.” Ask yourself what makes the house seem inviting or how you know that the jewelry is junk, etc.  You may make inferences (e.g., “the neighborhood is wealthy”) only if you’ve given evidence for them (e.g, “the late-model cars are polished and dent-free, the houses each have 4 garage stalls and the yards have no weeds).  Making these kinds of objective observations is surprisingly hard to do, and thoughtful discussion with your group will help.

preview of the answer…

Movies usually bring out events that take place in the society. This is because of the fact that most movies are usually aimed at revealing to people several things that take place in the society. This is seen in the movie, “Crash” which brings out racial aspects in the American society. However, this movie uses a different approach to those used by other movies
