Law enforcement, just like other professionals has changed over time to become what it is today. There has been a metamorphosis in the culture and structure of the police force within the 20th century to improve the functions and strike a balance in the various functions of the police. Therefore, the three main eras have been documented. One of the eras is the political era. The era lasted until the early parts of the 2oth century. The political era was replaced by the reform era that covered the middle part of the 20th century and finally, there was the community policing era (Gerber, 2016). The community policing era has had the most impact on the policing that people currently experience. The era of community policing was characterized by the return of collaboration with the community, decentralization and the increase of the functions of the police as it is presently in the United States of America……
