Topic Analysis – Henry V
Compare and contrast the different views we get of Henry in 3.1.1-35 and in 5.2.132-176. Which is closer to the “true” Henry? Which do we understand/know better within the play as a whole?

In act three, Henry is portrayed as an individual who is hell bent in taking power from the King of France. Henry’s arrives in France with a large fleet of ships and is met with the full force of the English army. Although King Charles offers Henry a compromise, the king is quite categorical that Henry will not be allowed to take over the crown from the English. Henry refuses the offer and decides to forge a different path that involves war. King Charles had originally indicated that Henry would be given some small sub regions present in France known as the dukedoms as well as King Charles daughter for marriage (Shakespeare, 2014).
