Transparency in Healthcare
This article (and there are many others like it) illustrates how many
layers of obfuscation and plain old deception there can be between health
care providers and simple consumer information (in this case, the mortality
rate of pediatric cardiac surgery). Please consider the following in your
response to this article:
1. What can/should be done via the at the Federal and State government
levels to improve this flow of consumer information?
2. What role can/should the JCAHO and other accreditation bodies play in
improving the flow of objective information to the consumer?
3. If you know of similar examples where consumer information has been
difficult or impossible to attain, feel free to share, and provide your
thoughts and analysis.
