Manipulation

I told you at the beginning, there is a dark side to manipulation. It is the evil side. It occurs when someone shows no concern for others. They use all these wonderful skills to persuade others to do something that benefits only the manipulator. A Manipulator is basically a sociopath who is only concerned about himself. Manipulators come in all shapes and sizes. Some are larger than life like Adolph Hitler and others are small and insignificant to everyone but those who are affected by them. Have you ever wondered how these evil people get so much control? What is there about a manipulator that causes people to follow him?

I happen to believe that the only way we protect ourselves from people like that is to know how they gain control. Even well educated people can fall victim to powerful manipulators. While you are trying to sort through all of this information, I am sure that you will be thinking, “I could never fall prey to a manipulator.” But beware, those of us who think we are the most secure are probably the most vulnerable. You see the victims are not the ignorant and insecure, but often they are the educated, the competent, and the confident.

Now truthfully you will not find all the answers in the textbooks. Many of the answers will come directly from your own analysis.Start thinking about the dark side of manipulation.I want you to think about it so that you will not be a

victim.I want you to think about it so you can help others who become victims.Manipulation is a complicated process. You need as much information as possible to begin to explore what happens to the victims. Of course not everyone is a victim; some are actually survivors. They are those people who have faced the manipulator and escaped his power. In my opinion, they are the heroes.

Your challenge is to sort through this information and find out what may cause someone to be a victim. In a sense, you will be building an extra hedge of protection around yourself and hopefully around those about whom you care. You will understand the process and thereby be able to thwart it.I suggest that you casually read through this material trying to determine which parts a manipulator could use and then study a manipulator to see your suspicions are valid. This may be the most important assignment of the entire semester because this is the assignment that will protect you from destruction.
