What are the benefits and disadvantages of “mainstreaming” DRR as opposed to treating it as a separate sector?

Discussion Response

Model 5 Overview: Development actors are increasingly building disaster risk reduction and resilience into their programming. But does that mitigate the dramatic shift in operations when a disaster happens?

By the end of this module, students will be able to:

Analyze the benefits and shortfalls in resilience and DRR programming and how such programs or crosscutting approaches affect the transition into emergency work.

Discussion

Please discuss the readings in the context of the course topic, your experiences. You can make comments or ask questions, as well as responding to what your classmates say.

What are the benefits and disadvantages of “mainstreaming” DRR as opposed to treating it as a separate sector?

In one of our readings last week, it was mentioned that DRR tends to ignore response; does that seem accurate? How does it affect the transition?

This discussion requires two posts, an initial post and two response post. Later in the day will need to respond to two other posting. 100 words each so a total of 200 in responses to two other students. Total of 850- 950 words in discussion post, reference not included in the word counting. I will upload the required pdfs.
