: What ten Year (give or take a year) period would you use as a “building block” or “cornerstone” for a U.S. History Since (part three) and why?

American Presidential Debate

United States History is generally taught in two parts; U.S. History to 1876-7 and U.S. History since 1876-77. I would argue that in the not too distant future we will be teaching a U.S. History part three. For each part there is a “building block” or “cornerstone.” In the case of U.S. History since 1876-7 it is the ten or so years of Reconstruction (1865-1876-77). If you think back to the start of the semester the first thing we talked about was Reconstruction.

So, given what I have just said your essay question is: What ten Year (give or take a year) period would you use as a “building block” or “cornerstone” for a U.S. History Since (part three) and why? You might, for example use the Vietnam War 1965-1975. In this case you would need to look at what caused the war—what were the social conditions like, particularly around 1965 – 1975? I think you get the idea. Another example might be The Age of Reagan. You would need to look at why he was elected—the fall of the Berlin Wall–Reagan economics? I hope you get the idea. It could be the fifties or the sixties. Whatever time period you choose you must justify why.

Your paper needs to be at least five pages.

Make sure all of the pages are stapled and your name is in the top left hand corner of the first page

Okay, now for the mechanics of the paper. Your paper needs to be at least five pages. It must be a hard copy which you will turn in at the start of class on Wednesday, 4th of March. Make sure all of the pages are stapled and your name is in the top left hand corner of the first page. You can use Times Roman 12 point or Ariel 12 point font. It must be double spaced. You must use at least five scholarly sources to support your answer. I would suggest starting with the Library databases and go from there. If you are in any doubt about a source then contact me for advice. I am perfectly happy with a simple in-text citation, so you would put in ( ) authors last name. title of work, page #. If you are citing a web site then just put the title and author in ( ). Do not put the web address.
