Discussion Topic: To what extent did the women’s movement of the 1960s gain momentum from the successes of the civil rights movement? The women’s movement of the 1960’s was as a reaction to the oppression that women received at the time. Women were regarded as house wives and were not allowed to work. Their work was to stay at home and take care of children. The women protested against this and the civil rights movement of the time could not have come at a better time. As the blacks fought to be recognized within the society as equal to the whites, so did the women. The event at Greensboro that saw four freshmen black students stage a sit in after they were denied lunch at an all whites counter served to pay way for the civil rights movement……………….
