Mental illness is a health condition that affects the mind and changes the way a person
thinks, feels or acts. There are many different types of mental illnesses, for example,
mood disorders, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Some disorders can
start at any time in your life. A great example of this is the mental health illness known as
depression. A person who suffers from this disorder has difficulty enjoying things, they
feel sad, hopeless, are unable to eat or sleep well and constantly feel tired. I use this
example to show that because a person suffers from this mental disorder, it does mean
they are incapable of deciding what treatment options they want or need.
