This assignment requires you to locate a work of art in a museum and analyze it in keeping with the ideas and principles we have studied this quarter in ARTS 1A. Art 1A, Analysis paper assignment
You must choose a work of art that you will analyze with your own eyes while you took ARTS 1A
this quarter. You may not choose a work of art you have seen or studied in the past, unless you
can see it again in the next few weeks, and study it in the context of our work in ARTS 1A.
Your finished paper will be approximately 8 pages in length, typed using a 12-point font, and
double spaced, with one-inch margins.
This is not a research paper. If you look closely at the grading criteria below, you will see that
no points are awarded for research or “knowledge” of the artist. Rather, this paper requires that
you consider the work of art in relation to the work we have done in class this quarter. To
complete this paper you will revisit your ARTS 1A chapter notes from weeks one through five, in
addition to our classroom materials, including the Documents, Reading Exercises, and Spotlight on
Technique videos we have discussed.
