There are five steps that can help one to be an active listener. Step one is by preparing mentally. This is achieved by telling yourself that you are going to pay attention and thus it helps one to set the mind by giving it an objective. One also needs to get rid of any distractions that may distract the mind thus hindering effective listening. Step two is paying attention when the speaker is listening
